Lake Bell looked comfortable as she sat stretched out on a bed chatting with co-star Lindsay Sloane. Although Bell had just finished her scenes for that night’s work on the big-screen comedy A Good Old Fashioned Orgy, both she and Sloane were still in costume.
Sloane (Grosse Pointe) wore an old lady’s house coat, fuzzy slippers and big curlers. She still toted a long neck beer bottle prop. Nearly everyone on set this Thursday night had one.
Bell looked very ’80s with a ponytail sprouting from the top of her head, a cut-up black Megadeth T-shirt and several silver bracelets.
She felt comfortable enough after a long day’s shooting to suggest the interview be done right there in the bedroom. But there was no seat for a visiting reporter.
“Do you mind doing the interview in the orgy room?” she asked.
All the while she talked, she moved toward that soon-to-be-infamous room, which in real life was just the living room of a large secluded home north of Hampstead.
Of course, A Good Old Fashioned Orgy doesn’t really dwell so much on sex parties as it does on the story of a group of friends coming to terms with growing up. The movie takes place in present day Hamptons, some time between the Fourth of July and Labor Day.
Thirtysomething Eric (played by SNL star Jason Sudeikis) has been living responsibility-free in his parents’ summer home. But when his dad’s mid-life crisis puts the house up for sale, Eric decides to throw one final blast before facing the real world - an orgy with all his best friends.
It’s a comedy that includes Sudeikis’ Saturday Night Live teammate Will Forte, and at this point, it’s unclear just how much nudity will be in the film.
“The orgy’s sort of an excuse for a group of people to hold onto their youth and do something really fun and irresponsible and crazy, and you know, something that they would never in a million years do,” Bell said, after getting situated on a chair in the living room.
Bell plays Alison, an opinionated woman not afraid of advising others on their love lives, despite the dysfunction in her own relationships. Alison’s last name has changed several times.
“I wanted her to be far more Jewish and have the last name of Cohen or Rosenberg because I’m not Jewish and I wanted the opportunity to play Jewish, make the father’s side of my family proud. But now it’s Loebell, which sounds like Lake Bell, which can be confusing,” she said.
